Texas deer counties fall into North Zone and South Zone, and the general season opens the same day in both — Nov 7, 2026. What changes as you cross a county line is everything after that: the day the general season ends, whether the county has a muzzleloader season at all, whether the 13-inch antler restriction applies, and which days you may take an antlerless deer. What the columns mean

Zone

Texas splits deer into North Zone and South Zone, which close on different days. Both open the same day; the difference is the back end of the season, and the special late season that follows it.

North Zone — Nov 7, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027 · 226 counties
South Zone — Nov 7, 2026 – Jan 17, 2027 · 30 counties

Those two counts add up to more than 254 because the zone line runs through 4 counties, which are in both: Kinney, Medina, Uvalde, Val Verde.

Muzzleloader

90 counties run a muzzleloader-only season after the general season closes; the rest do not have one at all. In 5 counties it applies to only part of the county, and those rows say so rather than pick a side.

Antler restriction

In 117 counties a buck has to be a legal buck before you can take it. TPWD prints the same paragraph in every one of them:

“The bag limit in this county is two legal bucks, but only ONE may have an inside spread of 13 inches or greater. A legal buck deer is defined as a buck deer with: at least one unbranched antler; OR an inside spread of 13 inches or greater (does not apply to a buck that has an unbranched antler). A hunter may also take ONE buck with an inside spread of 13 inches or greater in a different county with antler restrictions, and not to exceed that county's bag limit.”

84 counties have a window inside the general season when antlerless deer may be taken on a hunting license tag, and that window is what the column shows. “None listed” means TPWD’s page for that county carries no such window — not that antlerless deer are closed there. Open the county’s row for what its page does say, and check the county page itself before you shoot.

Counties split by a line

9 counties carry two sets of rules, divided by a road or a survey line: Bell, Comal, Hays, Kinney, Medina, Travis, Uvalde, Val Verde, Williamson. Their rows show both, and the difference is real — in some of them one side has a muzzleloader season and the other has a special late season instead.
